The film installation features an abstracted deconstruction of the British flag, surrounded by a metallic frame shrouded with a translucent veil, upon which are projected live footage and animations Brown collated, captured and created during the fellowship. It challenges the fictions upon which empires of exclusion are grounded, and refigures Listening All Night To The Rain by embodying the British Pavilion itself - an imperial facade re-framed for inclusive, imaginative, insightful storytelling. The film is semi-autobiographical, and is a work of speculative fiction - it imagines the extent to which people might be willing to comply to what doesn’t serve them. Rodney states: ‘Black people must mobilise and unify themselves to act in their own interest’. This applies to criminalisation of organic produce – such as marijuana – versus the endorsement of European owned tobacco, processed foods, and Black 'beauty' products (such as European weaves). ‘The decolonisation of representation’ – applies in Brown’s piece, Grounding: Jamaica - Legalise Marijuana (2020), which considers&nbsp;positive&nbsp;re-investment&nbsp;in Black&nbsp;excellence,&nbsp;the Jamaican economy, education, health sector, and championing Jamaica’s organic produce&nbsp;and postcolonial beauty standards. Mapping the images and ideas that are catalysing and elevating his art and design practice, the research wall is a means through which Brown can share, and hence activate, his creative process.
