John Blanke and the Magic Trumpet is inspired by the real life of John Blanke; a Black trumpeter in Tudor England who, in 1527, successfully requested a pay rise from his employer at the time (King Henry VIII). Brown’s re-imagines this story; Blanke has magical powers that, when he plays his trumpet, allow him to manipulate the minds of those around him.

The artwork - a short story, animated graphic, and soundtrack - was created for a group exhibition, exploring desire, at the Royal College of Art.
